Do you have one specific tale, backed with evidence that Covey was a "con artist"?Ĭovey came from a very wealthy family (hotels). It may have good advice, but the company selling it doesn't follow it.Īnyone can throw around character assassinations like "con artist". In the end he went through "The Great Retcon" and changed all references to it to "Seventy Maxima of Maximally Effective Mercenaries" which amusingly enough has become a real book and taken on greater significance in the story as a result.īut hearing that soured my opinion of Covey and his book. The author got a threatening letter effectively saying they'd sue to shut down the entire comic over this joke. We're two layers deep.Ĭovey's estate heard about it, and what did they do? LAWSUITS. With me so far? Parody book in a webcomic. Well, in the comic, as a joke, the characters would reference a parody product in the future called "Seven Habits of Highly Effective Pirates" which was supposedly a little book written by a pirate in prison about being a better pirate. There's a very popular and successful webcomic called Schlock Mercenary that's been around for years. While I acknowledge that it has good advice, I believe the estate/people behind it to be absolutely hypocritical and overly aggressive in making sure they're the only people offering it.
